The language of mass media, especially the press, has basic problems that there is no doubt about the necessity of removing them. Such problems are either the result of the unawareness about the regulations of the structure of the Farsi language or stem from rational, rhetorical, pronunciation and, expressive problems. The media are increasing promulgating non-standard language patterns; therefore it is necessary to recognize and examine such patterns and if possible control them or replace them with standard patterns.
The present paper is based on a research work under the title “non-standard pattern in the language of the press” which has been defined, codified and implemented upon the orders of the Department of the Study and Development of the Press of the Press Affairs and Information Deputy Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance. In this paper, the language of a large number of highly circulated newspapers and magazines (12,320 sentences from 22 publications) are examined in view of non-standard language patterns and standard language patterns in accordance with the regulations of the structure of the Farsi language proposed and ways to prevent application of non-standard patterns are determined.
In order to pave the way for the forthcoming research works in this area, the present research has fundamentally introduced theoretical topics for the analysis of the press language. This research provides a theoretical support for any type of analysis in the area of press language. The paper pursues the following targets:
1- Recognition of the most important non-standard language patterns in the press language;
2- Classification and division of non-standard language patterns;
3- Surveying frequency of the non-standard press language patterns and reaching conclusion about it;
4- Presenting mechanisms for the control and reform of application of language patterns in the press
