The present research tries to address the future of the relationship between the government and the media in the context of technological and cultural developments as one of the first steps in this direction. Due to the changes the manifestation of which is already evident, the nature and fate of the media in general are in the process of transformation. By adopting a futuristic approach and methodology, this study examines the future possibilities of the media and explains how in each of the scenarios the government will deal with the media and how much would it be able to control the media.
To accomplish this important task, researchers outline their conceptual framework and their methodology (scenario writing method) and then develop three scenarios about the future of the government and the media. These three scenarios are: 1) Competition between government and non-government actors on domination over the media, 2) Hierarchical network society, the entry into the dark time of information control, 3) Open network society; the beginning of the era of information equality and the Enlightenment. In the end, these three scenarios will be examined based on possible, likely and ideal future prospects
